This lot comes from four smallholder farmers in the village of Jarma, in East Haraz, at an astonishing 2,350 metres above sea level. Jaadi is a local heirloom variety that has been growing on the terraced hillsides here for centuries.
Yemen's ancient heirloom varieties, high-altitude farms, and natural processing methods produce some truly distinctive coffees. This lot is no exception. Expect a cup that is full-bodied and deeply sweet, with a fig-like richness and a warmth reminiscent of cardamom.
After careful harvesting, coffee cherries are spread across surfaces to dry in the sun. Due to limited space at such high altitudes, many Yemeni farmers dry their coffee on purpose-built beds on the rooftops of their homes. Natural processing in this way can lead to some truly remarkable coffees, distinguished by a uniquely sweet and fruity flavour profile.
